Lipid Space Temporal and Spatial Regulation of Tissue Homeostasis by Lipids in the Micro- and Nanoenvironment

Lipids und fatty acids are structural and signalling molecules of fundamental physiological pathophysiological relevance. Many diseases are attributable to disturbances in lipid and fatty acid metabolism, and some of the most important drug classes target proteins that synthesize or modify lipids. Understanding the diversity and distribution of lipids therefore holds great potential for identifying new molecular targets for the treatment of major human diseases. The LOEWE Research Cluster "Lipid Space" aims to explore previously inaccessible and therefore unexplored lipid spaces in cells and tissues by developing and applying new key technologies. In addition to exploring cardiovascular, oncological and neurological diseases, Lipid Space aims to create technological added value by applying state-of-the-art technologies that will prove to be of benefit to the Hessian research landscape in the long term.
