The development of quantum computers aims to "crack" problems that were previously unsolvable with conventional computers. Global leaders in this field are putting a lot of effort into achieving this goal, but the concepts currently in use are severely limited. The LOEWE research cluster "SMolBits - Scalable Molecular Quantum Bits" is investigating a new approach in which individual molecules are used as information units (quantum bits) in order to be able to implement a scalable quantum computer.
