World Cancer Day: Research that creates hope – the research of several LOEWE projects helps to fight against the disease!
Cancer affects the daily lives of millions of people worldwide. For patients and their families, a diagnosis brings not only physical challenges but also significant emotional difficulties and uncertainties.
With the LOEWE Center FCI and the LOEWE Research Clusters CARISMa and MultiDrug-TDM, the Hessian LOEWE program supports several projects working on cancer. These projects are dedicated to researching new therapeutic approaches, improving early detection, and contributing to making treatments more targeted, personalized, and effective.
With innovative methods and interdisciplinary collaboration, the scientists in the LOEWE projects are driving progress forward – for better opportunities, improved quality of life, and a future with more effective solutions against cancer.
The World Cancer Day takes place annually on February 4th to raise public awareness of cancer prevention, research, and treatment. It was agreed upon in February 2000 at the World Summit Against Cancer under the Charter of Paris and first planned and organized in 2006 by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), the World Health Organization, and other organizations. The UICC coordinates World Cancer Day, which, according to its own figures, involves almost 300 organizations in 86 countries worldwide – including the German Cancer Society, German Cancer Aid, and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ).
