ProLOEWE Days 2026: ProLOEWE a guest at the LOEWE Centre emergenCITY at TU Darmstadt on June 22–23
On June 22 and 23, the ProLOEWE Days 2026 brought the network to the LOEWE Center emergenCITY at TU Darmstadt. Representatives from Hessian LOEWE projects used the two-day meeting to exchange ideas, learn about current research, and gain new insights into science communication.
Following a welcome address by ProLOEWE head Tanja Desch, Katharina Kleinschnitger – Managing Director of LOEWE emergenCITY – and her team presented the center’s current research approaches. The focus was on resilient communication and infrastructure systems for crisis situations.
A subsequent tour of Darmstadt’s Martinsviertel district demonstrated how emergenCITY tests its research in a real-world urban setting. Stations such as the "Litfaßsäule 4.0" (a smart advertising column) and the "Heinerboxen" showcased practical applications. After an intense and hot day, everyone looked forward to a relaxed exchange over dinner.
The second day began with the workshop "Ein Quantum Impro" led by Samuel van Gele (Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research). Using methods from improvisational theater, he introduced new approaches to strategic science communication and encouraged participants to explore creative ways of conveying knowledge.
In an open discussion session, Dr. Werner Nickel and Dr. Carina Oesterling from the LOEWE Office answered questions regarding figures, data, and facts related to the LOEWE program. This direct dialogue provided guidance and strengthened connections within the network.
The ProLOEWE Days 2026 offered concise insights into current research, practical examples from emergenCITY, and valuable inspiration for science communication. Special thanks go to the LOEWE emergenCITY team, Samuel van Gele, and the LOEWE Office for their contributions.
