LOEWE WhiteBox speaker Prof. Constantin Rothkopf, Ph.D., contributes German cognitive research to top international program

Prof. Constantin A. Rothkopf, Ph.D., together with Prof. Dr. Kristian Kersting spokesperson of the LOEWE research project WhiteBox, is taking on a key role in the newly founded international research program SCENE - Simons Collaboration on Ecological Neuroscience. As the only German representative among twenty leading scientists worldwide, Rothkopf heads the “Human Team” within the SCENE initiative, which will promote interdisciplinary projects to investigate the connection between perception and action over the next ten years.
With his internationally recognized expertise in computational cognition modeling, machine learning and neuroscience, Rothkopf brings key perspectives from Germany to the ten-year program, which is funded by the US Simons Foundation with over eight million US dollars annually.
SCENE is dedicated to the question of how the human brain continuously processes opportunities for action (“affordances”) from the environment - a topic that is also at the center of Rothkopf's work at TU Darmstadt.
The selection of SCENE as the only funded project out of 245 applications underlines the scientific importance of the research that Rothkopf is driving forward at the interface of perception and action - both within the framework of the LOEWE research project WhiteBox and in international cooperation.
With SCENE, Constantin Rothkopf is not only expanding the profile of TU Darmstadt in the field of cognitive science and AI research, but also strengthening the international visibility of top German research.
