LOEWE-Green Dairy spokespersons Andreas Gattinger and Lutz Breuer are researching circular cattle farming with the ZirKUH project

The aim of LOEWE-Green Dairy is to develop innovative animal-plant agricultural systems that are both ecologically and economically sustainable, enable a high level of animal welfare and thus enjoy a high level of acceptance in society. How sustainable cattle farming can be optimized ecologically and economically is also the focus of the ZirKUH practical research project launched in 2024 at Justus Liebig University Giessen, in which GreenDairy spokespersons Prof. Dr. Andreas Gattinger and Prof. Dr. Lutz Breuer are also involved. Together with an interdisciplinary team, they are researching circular cattle farming systems that combine animal welfare, environmental and climate protection and regional value creation.
ZirKUH is therefore part of the further development of integrated agricultural systems, which are the focus of GreenDairy. The project is currently analysing dairy and meat farms in Hesse in terms of energy supply, recycling, fertilizer management, feed origin and marketing. Sustainability assessments and practice-oriented recommendations are being developed on the basis of this data.
