Insights into a high-security laboratory: "Galileo" visits the BSL-4 laboratory on the Lahnberge in Marburg – with Dr. Christopher Veeck, a scientist of the former LOEWE Center DRUID
The episode "Im Kampf gegen Viren: Inside Hochsicherheitslabor" (Fighting Viruses: Inside the High-Security Lab) – broadcast on August 24, 2026, as part of the Pro7 educational program "Galileo" – offered a rare glimpse behind the scenes of the BSL-4 laboratory at the Institute of Virology at Philipps University Marburg.
Together with his colleague Dr. Michelle Gellhorn Serra, Dr. Christopher Veeck – a virologist and researcher formerly associated with the LOEWE Center DRUID – introduced the reporter of Galileo to their work, though not before subjecting him to a rigorous security screening.
The report focused on providing insight into a work environment that is otherwise difficult for outsiders to access. This included highlighting the meticulous care and sense of responsibility that define operations in the lab, as well as explaining the vital importance of this research.
