Bad Homburg Conference “Artificial intelligence: How is it shaping our future?” with keynote speech by LOEWE WhiteBox speaker Kristian Kersting

KI-Conference

Since the US company Open AI launched the chatbot ChatGPT in November 2022, artificial intelligence (AI) has become mainstream in society. In view of the seemingly limitless potential of digital technology, fundamental assumptions about how we think, act and work on a daily basis are beginning to falter. Many people are asking themselves: “What consequences will the new technology have for our future?”

The focus of this year's Bad Homburg Conference 2024, taking place from September 20 to 21, 2024, organized by the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften of Goethe University Frankfurt, the Center for Critical Computational Studies (C3S) and the city of Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, is therefore the question: “Artificial intelligence: How will it shape our future?”. The keynote speaker, alongside the philosopher Prof. Stefania Centrone and the sociologist Prof. Armin Nassehi, is the computer scientist Prof. Kristian Kersting, one of the two speakers of LOEWE- White Box.  Prof. Franziska Matthäus, spokesperson for the LOEWE focus area CMMS, is a member of C3S and part of the conference planning group

The keynote speeches will set the thematic framework: Prof. Armin Nassehi (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich) will speak about society's expectations of AI and the technical and social challenges that society should face. Prof. Stefania Centrone (TU Munich) will analyze the possibilities and limits of AI predictions and their consequences for individuals and society. Prof. Kristian Kersting (TU Darmstadt) outlines the vision of a “Reasonable AI” that thinks about the world with a kind of “common sense” and continuously learns. Law and economics, politics and art as well as education and health - these central areas of society are the focus of three panel discussions with twelve experts from science and society. The focus will be on the question of how they could be influenced by the use of AI.

The Bad Homburg Conferences have been jointly organized by the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften of Goethe University and the city of Bad Homburg since 2017. Every autumn, they offer a public forum for reflection on important contemporary social issues.
