Appointment to a world-renowned scientific academy: Prof. Dr. Peter R. Schreiner, spokesperson for the former LOEWE project SynChemBio, member of the exclusive IAQMS

Prof. Dr. Peter R. Schreiner, a chemist from Giessen, has been elected to the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (IAQMS) in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements. Admission to this exclusive association of leading minds in quantum research honors the Giessen-based chemist as one of the foremost figures in his field. In addition to numerous other projects, Prof. Schreiner has participated as a scientist in several LOEWE projects, serving as spokesperson for the projects SynChemBio and PriOSS.

Prof. Schreiner holds the Chair of Organic Chemistry at Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) and was awarded the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize for 2024. His successful experimental synthesis of hexanitrogen (N₆) – achieved for the first time last year – garnered significant international attention. The stabilization of this highly reactive molecule, realized by Schreiner based on quantum chemical predictions, is considered a scientific breakthrough and underscores the importance of his work for understanding fundamental chemical processes. "Election to the IAQMS is a great honor that reflects not only my own work but the entire research output of my team at JLU," said Prof. Schreiner.

In addition to this latest appointment, Prof. Dr. Peter R. Schreiner is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. His research has received numerous accolades and funding awards, including the Adolf von Baeyer Medal from the German Chemical Society (2017) and an ERC Advanced Grant (2022). He received one of the highest U.S. awards in organic chemistry from the American Chemical Society (ACS): the 2021 Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award. Prof. Schreiner has established an outstanding scientific reputation with nearly 500 publications in prestigious international journals (including "Science" and "Nature").
